ABOUT THIS ARTIST
...Jan Van Dijk looks at reality with great curiosity. He chooses within it stories, events that stir him, and captures images that he reworks with flashes of light and marks. Whilst looking for an entry point into one of Van Dijk's paintings, one will be surprised to find a jockey's head or a fishmonger, a Ferris wheel or a face found in a magazine. Van Dijk spreads colour from the form's outline, and his subject explodes in a gush of expressive marks. News events become the testimonies, the medium of the artist's intent.
Van Dijk is a street artist, I can hear the sounds and feel the buzz of the streets in his works. His paintings, which are at once abstract and figurative, have the same meteoric impact street art has, but his are on canvas...
